Sensory-Friendly Vaccine Clinic and Playtime

This event aims to bring families together to learn through play in an environment that supports the unique needs of children with Autism and/or sensory challenges.
During this event, SSM Health will provide a free vaccine clinic for children with sensory needs, siblings, and their parents (children ages 5 and up). Vaccines will be provided by medical providers who specialize in administering them to children with sensory processing challenges or a fear of needles. Accessible vaccine kits, sensory fidgets, and communication boards will be available to support participants as well.
Each person who wants to receive a vaccine may register for a fifteen-minute session (vaccinators can take families as a group at the museum, but they must each register separately). Please click the registration link below for details on available vaccines. The vaccine clinic will run from 3:00 PM – 5:45 PM. Walk-ins are welcome, but may result in wait times.
The museum will close to the public at 4:00 PM, but remain open to families coming to the vaccine clinic until 6:00 PM. If you arrive prior to 4:00, let the front desk know you are arriving for your vaccine.
Please register below if you plan to come and play at Madison Children’s Museum during our sensory friendly play time. Registration closes on Wednesday, November 4th.

ASD and Sensory-Friendly Exhibit Changes
During Sensory-Friendly Hours, changes are made to the museum’s exhibit spaces with the intention of helping make the museum more accessible and enjoyable for children with ASD and sensory issues. These changes include:
- Hand dryers will be closed off and paper towels will be available in all bathrooms.
- The Wildernest, Cozy Cottage, and first floor First Aid room will be designated comfort rooms.
- The entire museum will be open and all ages are welcome, including friends and family.
- The Wayback Machine exhibit will be turned off, including all lights, sounds, and video.
- Headphones will be available for children and families to use in the museum.
- Simple signage designating quiet zones and sensory-seeking areas will be posted throughout the building.
Our goal in making these changes is to create a welcoming, supportive, and fun environment for families to play and explore together. To assist the museum in meeting this goal, we welcome and encourage participants’ feedback on every aspect of our sensory-friendly programming.

Madison Children’s Museum welcomes children and families with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and sensory challenges to experience the museum during sensory-friendly hours, free of charge. This program aims to bring families together to learn through play in an environment that supports the unique needs of children with ASD.
During this event, Public Health Madison Dane County, together with local healthcare providers, will provide a free vaccine clinic for ages 5 and up, with medical providers who specialize in administering vaccines to children with sensory processing challenges and fear of needles. This vaccine clinic is NOT just for individuals with extra sensory needs. Each person who wants to receive a vaccine registers individually for a ten-minute session (vaccinators can take families as a group at the museum, but they must register separately). The clinic will accept all types of health insurance, and will provide vaccines free of charge to those without insurance. Click here for the vaccine registration link and list of available vaccines.
