Entrance
Enter using the main door, located on the corner of Hamilton and Pinckney Streets, closest to the Capitol building. Proceed to the front desk, past the stained glass window and the Windows to the Past exhibit, on your left.
Parking
There are two parking ramps located within easy walking distance of the museum and several zones of on-street metered parking.
Parking Garages
There are two parking garages with unlimited same-day parking within one block of the museum, and several other garages within walking distance.
- The Capitol Square North Garage, the lot on the right side of the map above, typically has the most daytime parking availability. To get to the museum, cross N. Webster St. at the crosswalk and walk one block down E. Mifflin St., passing Gotham Bagels on your right and the Bartell Theater on your left, toward the State Capitol building. The entrance to the museum will be on your right, just across N. Hamilton St. at the crosswalk.
- The ULI Dayton/Pinckney Ramp is located just across N. Pinckney St. from the museum and is on the left on the map above. This lot usually has disability-accessible parking spots on its first floor and often has parking available on the top floor during the day. The ramp does not have an elevator, so visitors with strollers may need to fold them to carry them down the stairs, or walk down the driveway. Exit the parking ramp onto N. Pinckney St. and walk uphill for less than a block to cross at the crosswalk and enter the museum. Visitors who park in the ULI Dayton/Pinckney Ramp at N. Pinckney and E. Dayton streets Monday to Friday can get a discounted parking voucher (good for approximately 20% off, depending on the day) at the front desk.
- There are several other parking ramps within walking distance of the museum. This site shows vacant parking space availability in lots in Madison.
On-Street Parking
Metered parking is available on the streets surrounding the museum. The front desk of the museum can usually make change from cash if you need coins to feed a meter.
- On the N. Pinckney St. side of the museum, there are spots with 2-hour limits payable by coin, credit card, or the MobileNOW! app.
- On the N. Hamilton St. side of the museum there are spots with 2-hour limits payable by coin.
- On the E. Dayton St. side of the museum there are spots with 2-hour limits payable by coin. Across the street on E. Dayton St. there are 2-hour spots payable by coin, credit card, or the MobileNOW! app.
- On the next block down of E. Dayton St. there are spots with 10-hour limits payable by coin, credit card, or the MobileNOW! app.
Pro-tip: On most Sundays, downtown parking is easy, and often free. Metered street parking spaces are free, weekday hourly limits are lifted, and the nearby Capitol North parking garage usually has plenty of room at $1.20/hour and a daily maximum rate of $8/day.
