Madison Children’s Museum Statement on Global Youth Climate Strike, 9/20/19

Madison Children’s Museum is inspired by the passions, ambitions, ideas, and thoughts of children everywhere. We are committed to helping children learn to lift their voices, become active, engaged citizens, and express their opinions and aspirations for themselves and their world. We recognize our instrumental role as child advocates, as together we proactively address the most pressing social and ecological issues facing our shared communities.

The museum is committed to helping ensure children’s bright futures and we remain fierce advocates for the planet that we all inhabit. We play a leadership role in climate, sustainability, and resiliency education, outreach, and advocacy, while elevating youth voices around climate change action.

Madison Children’s Museum supports peaceful participation in the youth-driven Global Youth Climate Strike on September 20, 2019, in Madison and will be offering climate education and civic engagement opportunities for families throughout the day and following week. We believe youth advocacy can drive more immediate collective, civic, and systemic solutions to our shared climate challenges. We lift their voices, welcome their ideas, proposals, and commitments, and encourage everyone to get involved and keep learning so that together we can work toward more sustainable solutions.

Stop by the museum’s DeAtley Community Concourse and Pleasant T. Rowland Rooftop Ramble exhibits on September 20 to plant a tree, write to elected officials, learn about kids who are making a difference, make an environmental commitment, and create your own inspirational messages and signs for the march.
