Wonder Ball raises money for Madison Children’s Museum

Hundreds attended the Madison Children’s Museum Wonder Ball on Friday night. Once a year, the museum throws a party for adults to raise money for a good cause.

NBC15’s John Stofflet emceed the ball. People dressed up in full costumes, outfitted with masks. The money fundraised through the event goes to help various programs the museum offers.

One of the programs helps people struggling financially to qualify for reduced membership rates.

“We have many ways families can qualify for really reduced membership and that means they can come as many times as they want. It allows them to really repeat their visits and have those great experiences,” the president and CEO of Madison Children’s Museum, Debbie Gilpin, said.

Another program the fundraiser benefits is the first-time parent
membership. It allows first-time parents to get a free membership to the museum until their child turns 18 months old.

“The exposure to the world around us is so critical for young children, so we wanted to be sure all families can bring those babies and also know there are things at the children’s museum specifically for them,” she said.

She said around two-thousand families took advantage of the opportunity last year when it was first launched; they only expected around 500 to be interested.
