Staff Show & Tell: Paper Towel Pride Flag Experiment
by Taylor Flesch, marketing supervisor & membership assistant
In honor of Pride Month, Taylor, who you might have met behind the front desk at Madison Children’s Museum, brings us a colorful science experiment/craft that works with STEM principles to create a pride-worthy rainbow!

Supplies:

- Absorbent Paper Towels
- Scissors
- Washable Markers
- Water
- 2 Small Cups
Steps:

1) Begin by cutting your paper towel into a strip. Make sure the strip isn’t too long, or the color may not be able to fully travel all the way through the length of the strip.

2) Use the washable markers to create matching mini rainbows on both ends of paper towel
Hey, did you know: there are many different pride flags? You can learn more about about them here! You can use different marker colors to grow various pride flags!
3) Fill your two small cups with just enough water to cover the bottom surface of the cup.
4) Place one end of paper towel into each of the two cups and watch your rainbow grow!

This experiment was inspired by the Grow a Rainbow experiment on Best Ideas for Kids.
