Project Green Thumb Mini-Camp (Spring Break)

Spring break doesn’t have to mean a break from learning!

Calling all kid-gardeners, it’s time to get your hands dirty! Get a behind-the-scenes look at the museum’s gardens from the rooftop to the log cabin. Learn to make seed paper, plant seeds, create terrariums, design green spaces, and cook a snack with local, seasonal produce during this one day mini-camp.

Food: Bring a sack lunch, or send cash with your child to purchase lunch from the Sparkler Café.

Frontier Living Camp

Design and create a cyborg plushie!

Join us in learning how to create your own plushie stuffed animal, fantastical creature, doll, monster, or any character you can think of! In this camp we will explore hand sewing techniques and learn how to design a basic circuit with LED’s to create a light-up element for your new friend. We will also have fun creating a set of clothes for your plushie.

Campers will work at their own pace and receive abundant help and support for individual projects.

In this camp, children will discover what it takes to protect our planet by exploring lakes, watersheds, eco-systems, and sustainability.  Campers will spend time on Madison’s lakes testing water and visiting the UW Limnology Department. They will learn about keeping our lakes clean, experiment with alternative energy, and practice conserving earth’s resources through recycling, upcycling, and growing food locally.

Young Chefs Camp: Mealtime Mavericks

Cook delicious meals!

Would you like to become a “mealtime maverick” and learn how to cook delicious meals for you and your family?  From breakfast to dessert, each day we’ll make 2 different dishes in order to learn a variety of cooking techniques and perfect our skills.   We will learn basic kitchen skills like measuring and how to read and follow a recipe, and more advanced skills like chopping, dicing and sautéing.  Some sample recipes might be:  strawberry bruschetta, veggie burger sliders, or homemade hummus and pita chips.  The last day of camp will include a cake decorating demonstration from Carl’s Cakes and each camper will bring home cupcakes they decorated themselves.

Calling all Kindergartners!

Join us for a special week of play and activities designed for 4 and 5 year olds and first time museum campers. We’ll run like a gerbil, create like an artist, and think like a scientist.  Each morning will start with free play time before the museum opens, and will also include a special craft or science activity, such as giant bubbles, additional exploration in the museum’s exhibits, and a group mindfulness activity. Making new friends and playing together will help campers practice important Kindergarten skills like turn-taking and standing in line, and will encourage kindness and confidence. Join us for one session or both!
