Camps at Madison Children’s Museum

Sign up for some serious school-age fun!

Kids have lots of interests, so our spring, summer, and winter camps have lots to offer—from art and fashion to cooking and technology.

Registration for Spring Break and Summer Camp sessions:

February 9: online registration begins for MCM Members (you will need your member number to complete your registration).

February 15: online registration begins for nonmembers.

Morning camps run 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.; Afternoon camps run 1 – 5 p.m.; mini-camps may be scheduled at other times. Campers are asked to bring a lunch to morning camps and a snack to afternoon camps.

Fees and Payment

2016 Camp Fees: $140 Standard camp session; $115 Four-day camp session (Spring Break camp and July 5-8 camps)

Members receive a 10% program discount on all camp sessions. To receive your member discount when registering online, you must log in as the primary member on your membership. Links to log in or sign up for a new account can be found in the upper right hand corner of the registration page.

Scholarships through the museum’s Access for Everyone program

To apply for a scholarship, download and return the Camp Scholarship Application Form to MCM. If you are applying for camp scholarship(s), please contact the registrar directly. Camp scholarship application forms may be delivered by email, mail, or fax.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to complete all MCM forms.

Spring Break Camp: City Planning

March 21 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

MCM and Taliesin team up to offer a city planning camp during the MMSD spring break.

Taliesin’s City Planning Camp is designed to educate students about planning, designing and constructing a green community. Students will:

  • Learn about Wright’s principles of organic architecture and his concept of Broadacre City
  • Be introduced to key elements of city planning, sustainability and architecture
  • Research, design a neighborhood and build 3D models of buildings for that neighborhood
  • On the last day of camp, present  their community to parents and exhibit their models

Dates: March 21-24, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Ages: Completing grades 3 – 5

Junior Girl Scout Camp-In

April 16 @ 6:30 pm - April 17 @ 8:30 am

Join us for a night at the museum just for Junior Girl Scouts!

Fee: $30 per scout; $15 per adult

Tonight’s camp-in theme is Junior Detectives. Examine evidence, work with secret codes, and hunt for clues while solving a mystery. Campers will complete 4 activities toward the Detective badge. Camp-in registration fee includes museum admission, all program materials, an evening snack and a light breakfast.

Badges are not included, and must be purchased separately through your scouting organization.

Nature Photography Camp

June 20 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Explore photography and sketching in the great outdoors! Create sun prints, hand-tinted photos, and film and digital prints. Camp week includes field trips, guest artists and gallery tours.

Nature Heroes Camp

What makes someone a Nature Hero? Is it someone who teaches others about nature? Someone who builds a park? What about someone who plants flowers in their yard from which insects can eat? Learn to explore the world in the way that Nature Heroes throughout history have and inspire new Nature Heroes in your own communities.

Pioneer Living Camp

Try your hand at pioneer living!

  • Work with traditional tools
  • Communicate and trade with neighbors
  • Attend school in a one-room schoolhouse
  • Grow, cook, and preserve food; and more!
  • Plus, spend time in our authentic 1838 Log Cabin, recovered from Walworth County

Art and Science Fusion Camp

Explore the fascinating connections between art and science. Hands-on science experiments and art projects will include color experiments, sun prints, micro and  macro explorations and field trips to science labs on the UW-Madison campus.

Dig Into Dinosaurs Camp

July 5 @ 1:00 am - 5:00 pm

This camp may be as short as a T-Rex’s arms, but it’s sure to be a tall order of fossil fun!

Get a peek into the world beneath our feet, as we explore the basics of paleontology, archaeology, and geology. Even better, we’ll get to spend our Thursday session at the UW Geology Museum for a very special tour!

Dates: July 5 – 8, 1 – 5 p.m.

3D World Party Camp

Join us at for a 3D technology camp in offered in collaboration with UW-Madison’s Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. Explore 3D printing and work with the latest 3D technologies to design and print a one-of-a-kind 3D model of your creation.

Young Chefs Camp: Beginner Session

July 11 @ 1:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join us as we explore all aspects of cooking delicious meals.

  • Learn basic kitchen skills like chopping, dicing and measuring
  • Learn how to read and follow a recipe
  • Harvest our own herbs and collect fresh eggs from our Rooftop garden
  • Take a behind-the-scenes tour of a grocery store

Each day we will practice our skills by preparing and sharing an afternoon snack. On the last day of camp we will use our new expertise to prepare a feast for other campers and staff.

Camp dates: July 11 – July 15, 1 – 5 p.m.
Ages: best suited for children completing grades 1-3.

Young Chefs Camp: Advanced Session

July 18 @ 1:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join us for an exciting week of mastering kitchen skills, including dicing and sautéing, exploring unique flavor combinations and creating delicious recipes.

  • Prepare and share daily snacks
  • Engage in fun team challenges, such as a Salsa Showdown or a Flavor Faceoff, to practice what we’ve learned
  • Harvest herbs and vegetables from the Rooftop garden
  • Get a behind-the-scenes tour of a grocery store
  • Show your culinary expertise in a final contest where groups will prepare selected dishes and fellow campers and staff will be the judges

Camp dates:  July 18 – 22, 1 – 5 pm.

Fishing Camp: From Lake to Plate

July 25 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Experience firsthand the world of fishing in this experiential camp.

  • Learn all aspects of fishing; from growing your own bait, to knots and tackle, to cleaning and cooking your catch
  • Gain knowledge about water systems in Wisconsin
  • Discover new and important ways to help protect our natural resources
  • Plus, field trips to local Madison lakes for fishing fun!

Miniature Worlds Camp

Birding Bonanza Camp

August 8 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Did you know there are over 200 different types of birds here in Wisconsin?

  • Explore the sounds, behaviors, habitats and colors of Wisconsin’s birds
  • Learn to sing bird songs, identify the common birds of Madison using binoculars
  • Make your very own birding journal, and
  • Find out what you can do to help the birds that live in our community
