    Does laundry cause friction in your family? Wait until the kids find out about old-fashioned washing days! Doing chores is great for hand-eye coordination, integrating the senses, social emotional development, and appreciation for modern technology. Get scrubbin’ and experience tasks kids would have done in the mid-1800s. Learn how laundry used to get done with a tub, washboard, and drying line in this historical play program.

    Cabin Life invites you to try your hand at crafts and activities from around the time our original log cabin was built in the 1840s.

    Join us for a drop-in program during UW-Madison’s Student Senior Service Week. Exploration Stations offer a new hands-on activity each day for ages 4 and up.

    Come make your mark using MCM’s very own printing press. Create custom posters and practice problem solving and literacy skills by setting block type in reverse. Once you’ve made everything fit to print, get swept up in the science of air currents. Test your own Handmade Flying Objects and see if they soar in our mini wind tunnel.

    Learn about the games played by children on recess during the 1800s!

    Join us in the Log Cabin to play a game that would have been played in the frontier schoolyard. From Jacks, to Marbles, to graces, and more – we’ll explore a new game every week.

    All ages are welcome, but games will be best for children ages 5 and up.
