Eclipse Viewing Party: UPDATED
August 21, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Update 8.15.17: We have learned that our order of eclipse-viewing glasses has been canceled due to circumstances beyond our control. We will not have glasses to give away on August 21; however, please see our updated program description below with many fun ways to view the eclipse at MCM.
Come learn all about solar eclipses with us!
On August 21, a solar eclipse will cut across the entire United States. In Madison, the eclipse will peak at 1:15 p.m., when the moon obscures 85% of the sun.
Join us on the rooftop for an eclipse-viewing party with astro-themed music, space science activities, and a variety of eyeglasses and projection devices for safe viewing of the eclipse.
- Try out a pair of NASA eclipse viewing glasses to get a peek of the eclipse in progress (please note we do not have glasses to give away; however we will have a few pairs of glasses for visitors to try out and share during the event).
- Free NASA pinhole postcard projectors for all visitors.
- Use your fingertips to explore a tactile eclipse map designed for visually impaired visitors.
- Experiment with homemade eclipse projectors.
Stop by the Log Cabin for additional viewing opportunities and a chance to learn about historical superstitions and folklore associated with solar eclipses.
